Profession of Faith Baptism

August 6th, 2023

According to Holy Scripture, the sacrament of baptism is both a funeral and a birthday. Today we celebrate the death of Evelyn Robertson and Wesley Hall. And today we celebrate the birth of Evelyn Robertson and Wesley Hall. The Apostle Paul says in Romans 6:3-4, “Do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”

When we are joined to Jesus by the grace of faith, we are connected to him wherever he goes. If Jesus goes to the cross and dies, we also by faith go to the cross and die. And if Jesus rises from the dead, never to die again, then we also will rise from the dead, never to die again. This spiritual reality is signified in the rite of baptism, and therefore this day is truly more significant than the day our mother brought us into this world. Our natural birthday from our natural mother gave us natural life. But here in the waters of baptism, our supernatural God gives us supernatural life, and that is a life that is immortal and lasts forever.
